Location & Access

Jiushui Scenic Area sits on the northern side of Laoshan’s main peak, nestled within the Laoshan Scenic Area in Licheng District, Qingdao. To get there, take the metro to Laoshan Station and switch to bus 618 or 620, which drops you near the entrance. Driving is also easy—park at the Laoshan Visitor Center and follow signs to Jiushui Scenic Area.

Natural Wonders

This area is all about water! Jiushui (meaning “nine waters”) lives up to its name with cascading streams, 18 crystal-clear pools, and waterfalls that sing through the forest. The “Nine Springs” merge into a river that flows through inner and outer Jiushui valleys, creating pools of every shape and depth. In summer, the dense bamboo groves and shaded trails make it a perfect escape from the heat—locals call it “Qingdao’s mini version of northeast China’s cool climate!”

Hiking & Water Play

Walking through Jiushui Scenic Area feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The 18 Tans (pools) are the highlight—each has its own personality. Some are deep and quiet, others ripple with bubbling springs. The path follows the river, so you’ll cross stone bridges and wade through shallow streams (bring water shoes!). For a quick energy boost, stop by Yixian Pond, where a tiny waterfall spills into a pool surrounded by moss-covered rocks.

Cultural Spotlight

Laoshan’s 12 famous sights include two gems here: Whispering Bamboo and Spring Song (a bamboo grove with a hidden stream) and Rock Falls’ Tidal Sounds (a waterfall that roars like ocean waves). These spots reflect Daoist philosophy—the way water carves through rock or flows effortlessly mirrors life’s natural rhythm. Don’t miss Chaoyin Falls, where the sound of rushing water echoes like a giant organ.

Practical Tips

The area is family-friendly but steep in some parts, so wear comfy shoes. Bring snacks—there are a few picnic spots by the river, but options are limited. The visitor center has maps and cold drinks. If you’re visiting in summer, come early to avoid crowds and enjoy the misty morning light on the water.

Why You’ll Love It

Jiushui Scenic Area is Qingdao’s best kept secret for nature lovers. Whether you’re taking a dip in a mountain pool, listening to waterfall symphonies, or just breathing in the pine-scented air, it’s a refreshing escape from city life. Bonus: It’s photogenic at every turn—prepare to fill your camera!
