If you’re taking the subway, get off at Shichahai Station and take the A1 Northwest Exit. From there, it’s just a 290-meter walk to Yandai Xie Street. The Street Itself
Yandai Xie Street is a narrow, 232-meter-long alley that dates back to the Qing Dynasty. It’s one of the oldest commercial streets in Beijing, and it used to be famous for selling tobacco pipes, antiques, and traditional Chinese paintings. The street itself is shaped like a tobacco pipe, with the narrow alley resembling the pipe’s stem and the eastern entrance looking like the pipe’s mouthpiece. Hence, the name “Yandai” (which means “tobacco pipe” in Chinese).

Walking down Yandai Xie Street is like stepping back in time. The street is lined with small shops selling traditional Beijing crafts like paper cutting and sugar figurines.
