Location & Access
Qinyan Tower stands inside the Dujiangyan Scenic Area in Dujiangyan City, Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It’s nestled near the famous Erwang Temple and overlooks the historic Dujiangyan irrigation system. To get there, you can take a high-speed train to Dujiangyan Station (about 30 minutes from Chengdu) and then a short taxi or bus ride to the scenic area. If you’re driving, parking is available near the entrance.
Natural Scenery: A Postcard-Worthy View
From Qinyan Tower, you’ll witness panoramic views of the Minjiang River, snow-capped mountains, and the lush Qingcheng Mountain range. On a clear day, the Minyang Snow Mountain (part of the Qionglai Mountains) creates a stunning backdrop. The Anlan Bridge (a centuries-old rope bridge) and the Yule Pass (a historic gateway) add rustic charm to the landscape. It’s like a painting come to life!
Cultural & Historical Vibes
Qinyan Tower gets its name from the Qin Dynasty, when the Dujiangyan irrigation system was built. Though the tower itself is a modern replica of ancient architecture, it blends perfectly with the nearby Erwang Temple and other historic buildings. In fact, it’s the only non-heritage building included in the Qingcheng Mountain-Dujiangyan World Heritage site (listed in 2000). Experts love it for matching the style of older temples, making it feel like it’s been part of the landscape for centuries.
What You’ll See: Engineering & History
Climbing Qinyan Tower gives you a bird’s-eye view of three key parts of Dujiangyan’s hydraulic system: the water diversion, sand drainage, and flood control structures. These still work today! Below, the Anlan Bridge sways gently, while the Erwang Temple clings to a cliffside. You’ll also spot ancient post roads and the Yule Pass, which guarded Sichuan in ancient times.
Facilities for Visitors
The tower has a spacious viewing deck and clear signage explaining what you’re looking at. There are benches to rest and soak in the views. Guided tours are available if you want deeper insights into the history, and souvenir shops sell local crafts near the exit.
The Highlight: Sunset & Photo Ops
For an unforgettable experience, visit Qinyan Tower at sunset. The golden light on the mountains and the glow of lanterns at Erwang Temple create magic. This is also the best spot to photograph the entire Dujiangyan complex—zoom in, and you’ll capture the Anlan Bridge, temples, and river in one frame!
