Location & Access

Jinfoshan North Slope Scenic Area sits in the heart of Nanchuan District, Chongqing, near the magical 30th parallel north. Spanning 1,300 square kilometers (with 441 km² dedicated to the scenic area), it’s nestled in the northern part of the Dalou Mountain Range. The highest peak towers at 2,238 meters, and with over 95% forest coverage, it’s like a green paradise. Locals call it the “Natural Botanical Museum,” and travelers often compare it to the “Eastern Alps” due to its rugged beauty.

To get here, drive from Chongqing downtown (about 1.5 hours) or take a bus to Sanquan Town, Nanchuan. If you’re coming from afar, the nearest airport is Chongqing Jiangbei Airport, and Nanchuan Railway Station is just a taxi ride away.

Nature’s Masterpiece

At Jinfoshan North Slope, nature steals the show. The sprawling forests teem with rare plants, earning it the nickname “botanical museum.” In spring, wildflowers blanket the slopes, while winter transforms the peaks into a snowy wonderland. Don’t miss the Golden Mountain Stone Forest—a surreal landscape of limestone towers shaped by wind and rain. For thrill-seekers, the Snow Resort opens in winter, offering skiing with a view.

The Cliffside Walkway is a highlight: 3,500 meters of narrow paths carved into sheer rock walls. As you walk, you’ll pass gems like Turtle Greets the Sun (a rock formation) and Swifts’ Cave, where thousands of swallows flit in and out at dawn. On clear days, clouds roll like waves below, and if you’re lucky, the sun will create a “Buddha’s halo” effect around your shadow—a rare optical treat!

Cultural & Mystical Spots

Beyond nature, Jinfoshan hides cultural gems. The Ancient Ginkgo Garden holds towering ginkgo trees older than most cities. Nearby, Old Dragon Cave and Immortal Cave whisper tales of local folklore. The Ancient Buddha Cave even shelters centuries-old carvings, though be prepared for tight squeezes!

For a quieter vibe, visit Peach Blossom Hollow, a hidden valley reminiscent of traditional Chinese poetry. And keep an eye out for the Medicinal Pool—a natural spring where herbs grow wild, said to have healing powers.

Adventure & Relaxation

The scenic area balances adrenaline and tranquility. Hike the Dead-End Trail (a challenging route with ropes and ladders) or explore Eagle’s Nest, a viewpoint perched 2,000 meters up. Families will love Lying Dragon Lake, a crystal-clear pond perfect for picnics.

After a day of exploring, unwind at the Treetop Walkway, which loops through ancient forests, or warm up at the Hot Spring Area near the base. For overnight stays, there are eco-lodges and hotels with mountain views.
