If you have 5–6 days: Kunming (arrive) → Dali (2 nights) → Lijiang (2–3 nights) → fly out from Lijiang or return to Kunming.

Rail Details

• Kunming → Dali: ~2h, frequent trains from Kunming Station/Kunming South;
• Dali → Lijiang: ~1.5h on newer high-speed service;

What to Actually Do

Dali: rent an e-bike and circle Erhai Lake's west shore; eat mushroom hotpot in season (summer); skip the over-touristed old-town south gate after 8pm.

Lijiang: the old town is prettiest before 9am; Jade Dragon Snow Mountain needs a day and a ticket booked ahead; Tiger Leaping Gorge is a 2-day hike or a long day trip.

Kunming: the Stone Forest is the classic day trip; the Green Lake area is pleasant for a half-day if you're waiting for a train.

• This is a slow-travel corridor — don't compress it into 3 days; the point is lakes, tea, and mountain air;
• Altitude: Lijiang sits at ~2,400m — most people feel fine, but schedule light on day one;
• Combine with Shangri-La (further north by rail/bus) if you have 7+ days.
