From Beijing, many daytime G-trains now leave Beijing Fengtai (北京丰台站) rather than Beijing West. Read the ticket. Metro Line 10 to Fengtai, Exit D. Arrive 45–60 minutes early; Fengtai is huge.

Tickets inside the walls
- Entering the town is free. Gates stay open; you can sleep inside without a sightseeing pass.
- Combo ticket: typically 125 CNY adult (half-price often 65 CNY) covering about 22 indoor sites for three consecutive days — city wall, county yamen, Rishengchang draft bank, Confucius Temple. Each site once. Confirm on the official WeChat account 平遥古城景区官方服务平台 or at a gate window. Promotions sometimes drop the face price; the confirmation screen wins.
- Shuanglin Temple and Zhenguo Temple sit outside the walls and are usually sold separately (recently on the order of 25–35 CNY). Skip them if you only have one night.
A realistic one-night plan

How it sits on a northern loop

For high-speed trains book Pingyao Ancient City station (平遥古城站). Old Pingyao Station is for many overnight sleepers and is closer on foot.
Do I need a ticket just to enter the old town?
No. Walking the streets is free. Buy the combo pass if you want the wall walk plus the indoor museums.
Is one night enough?
Yes for the walls plus two indoor sites. Two nights if you add Shuanglin Temple.
How do I get from the high-speed station to the walls?
About 8 km. Bus 108 (watch north vs south gate branches) or a taxi/Didi for about 20–30 CNY.
Can I do Pingyao as a day trip from Beijing?
Technically a 3.5–4 hour each-way ride. Overnight is the trip. Day-trip only if you accept a very long day.
